I do not paint what you see, but what you do not see.
I try to make the invisible visible - to capture the incomprehensible.
I am concerned with what lies behind the visible world.
I try to show the invisible connections of life.
Man is probably the greatest enigma of our world. There are so many secrets, miracles, unexplored, supernatural and inscrutable things in the human
being. I deal with these mysteries in my art. I strive to look behind all the hidden phenomena and to express my view in my works. However, they remain only my personal insights, you have your
own and that is how it should be.
Those who look at my art remain uncertain about what is recognisable in it, but nevertheless
believe that they have reached a conclusion. I find this exciting and it always fills me with the urge to create new images.
That is why I am giving you the quote from Chung Sang-Hwa to consider at this point. It describes quite precisely the intention of my artistic
activity.
The beginning of artistic activities in the field of pictorial design dates back to the late seventies. Everything that had to do with painting was of burning interest to me. But I was also very interested in photography, literature, music and philosophy.
In the 80s I attended various design and craft courses,
I gained experience in various painting techniques, printing processes, sculpture as well as wood, metal, stone and plastic processing. In
particular, I devoted myself to the possibilities offered by pencil, ink, various printing techniques, gouache and oil painting, and also experimented with the simultaneous use of different
painting techniques.
application of different painting techniques
1989 - 90 Experiments with acrylic painting, sandstone paintings (crushed sandstones as
pigment, and phase of the
shadow paintings)
The first solo exhibition took place in 1990. Since then I have shown my work in about 30 further exhibitions and organised various events in the studio.
1991 Oil crayon and ink on paper, finding style by entering into my still used and unmistakably personal pictorial language.
Since 1993 I have devoted myself exclusively to painting in a largely consistent mixed technique. For this purpose I use acrylic paints, hard and soft oil crayons and work on canvas. Most of a painting is worked on directly by hand, only the linear elements are repainted with brushes at the end of the production process.
Smaller technical variations emerge in the course of time and complete the range of
available
design possibilities. The applied technique proves to be inexhaustible. The source of inspiration are my experiences with my environment and my
thoughts about it, which lead to ever new image creations.
2010 Move into the fourth studio in Brügg.
In 2013, the first international exhibition took place in Bologna.
In April 2014, works by the artist were on show in New York and in December in Miami. From May 2014, a series of paintings was permanently exhibited
at the Berggasthof Gurnigelbad, BE. This exhibition lasted until October
2015.
In 2016, exhibitions will follow in Lisbon, Basel and Bern.
Since winter 2015-16, the paintings have become more concrete, leaning on body forms, but still made in the artist's distinctive style. In October 2018, mn buys a commercial space and converts it into his new studio and a gallery at the same time. It will be spring 2019 before the new space can be inaugurated. Since then, mn has exhibited his paintings exclusively in his own gallery. The gallery is also used for exhibitions by other artists.
